Basic History
Half a dozen like-minded bikers who drank together in a seafront bar in Sandgate, near Folkestone, early in 1994 formed the Armada Motorcycle Club. The name derives partly from the Cinque Port association and partly from the fact that a castle, built to repel sea-borne invaders, stands directly behind the pub where the Club met.
From its original few members, it grew rapidly and started to ride to a few rallies and stage the odd rock night at the local pub. After the first AGM in January 1995, and now numbering some twenty members, it was decided to stage in June our first Midsummer Madness Party. This was a moderate success, even though staged in the pouring rain at a village hall, but it paved the way for future events.
Members
The club now consists of a wide range of both male and female members, aged from late teens to fifties (although you can't always judge by looks). All styles of bikes are represented within the club - classics, customs, sports, trikes and rats.
Activities
Armada members attend many rallies around the country, and on the Continent. The Club has organised a series of enjoyable Summer Runs on certain Thursday evenings, on which non-members and other clubs have been most welcome. The Armada also raises money to go to charities, such as schools and owl sanctuaries.
Aims
Armada MCC is affiliated to both MAG and BMF, and as such supports the efforts of these organisations to promote motorcycling, and to oppose anti-biking legislation from Europe. The main aim of Club members though, is to have a good time - both on the road - and in the pub or beer tent afterwards!
Meetings
Weekly meetings, starting at about 8.00pm, are held on Thursdays throughout the summer months (with every other week often a run-out somewhere) and bi-weekly throughout the winter. The Club is based at the Happy Frenchman, Christchurch Road, Folkestone, Kent. New faces and passers-by are always welcome.
